Numerous telegrams have been forwarded to-day from town and country denying the statement made by the Hon. Mr Waterhouse that the country settlers were opposed to the Napier Harbour Bill. Some of the largest landowners m the district have telegraphed \o members of the Legislative Council m contradiction of the statement. News has been received from the Wairoa of the death of three native children by burning, at a place called Whakaki, on Sunday night. A party of fifteen were holding a tangi over the body of an old woman, and went to sleep. The whare caught fire, and the children were burnt before they could be rescued. 1 Nelson, Oct. 1. Tho.
