The debtor only m attendance, and stated he had been m business m Palmerston about two years ago. Commenced with a capital of £30 or £40, and material valued at about £50 to £80. Borrowed £150 from my mother before starting, was to pay her interest at. 7 per cent. Bought wool from Thomas Knight, gave him promissory note and 1.0.1 T. m payment, total £35 ; subsequently 1 paid this by cheque. I swear the loan account, appearing m the lodger, m Mrs L. Baker's ttamej~ is true and correct. I got my mother to advance ,£2CO two or three days before I signed the deed m her favour. I got this money on account of the Bank pressing me to reduce my overdraft. I usually got advances from Murray, Roberts, & Co., equal to from 8d to lOd per lb on scoured wool. The Agent of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile, Agency Company called upon me about the beginning of this year, and requested me to pay the account owing them. On my ex.' plaining my position, he advised me to go through the Court. At a meeting held m March, the creditors advised me to file at once.
