BARNS & HIGGIE'S STOCK SALE REPORT.

We have to report holding a successful sale on Wednesday, 30th July, and, although the weather was and had been for several days previous very .strong and wet, a large quantity of stock came forward, but the very wet state of the country prevented some of the cattle advertised from being brought m. The attendance was good and the bidding brisk, and many of the linen offered were keenly competed for. Most of the stock was sold under the hammer, and the few line* passed were quitted at reserve prices during the time the Hale was going on, and some of the sheep changed hands again before leaving the yards at an advance on sale prices. Some 80 head of cattle entered for- the sale, but not brought m, were quitted at fair values, purchasers taking delivery on the farms of the vendors. We are glad to note a decided rise m the price of fat stock, both cattle and sheep, and the market generally is improving, youflg cattle and %\ to 3-year-old steers being m paitioular request. Cattle.— Fat cows, Li 10s ; 3-year-old steers, L 4 10s; dry cows, L 2 10s to L3 2s 6d ; yearlings and weanei s, 22s to 28s; milkers to calve soon, L 4 10s. Sheep. — Fat wethers, 12s lid to Us 6d ; fat ewes, 11s 6d to 14s 3d ; ewes m lamb,, 10a to 10s 8d; lam's, 7s 3d ; old ewes, 5s to 7s. Pigs.— Good porkers, 17s to JBsj store pigs, 1 Qs. Horses. — Little or no business.
