Larceny of a Watch.
T. MONTAGUE COMMITTED FOR TRIAL.
Thomas Montague was to-day committed for trial on a charge of larceny of a watch and chain, the property of one Thomas Kilt, labourer. The Bench was occupied by Messrs Snelson and Waldegrave,J.Pe.,andMrHazeldean,J.P. Under-Secret/iry of Justice, Mr Hawkins defended the accused. The prosecutor deposed that he was m cotnpauy of the accused yesterday when he had his watch on hi n^ but missed it afterwards. ■The waiter at the Royal deposed to have seen the accused undo Kilt's waistcoat, and take the watch out of his pocket and put it m his own. Told Mr Fenton what had occurred. Accused told Mr Fenton, When he taxed him with the theft, that .the man had asked him to take it. The police were then sent for, and the watck handed over to them. Mr Hawkins addressed the Court on behalf of the accused, who asserted that he had jtaken the. watch at: the man's own requerst-.' Committed for trial ; bail allowed, self, £200, and two sureties of £50 each.
