THE MANGAITONOKO BLOCK.
Many efforts have been made of late to induce the Government to open up roads to connect this district ■with the Mangaitonoko Block, which is an area of very fertile land, suitable m every respect for settlement, and whose natural centre undoubtedly should \\(x Polmpr^^n. . TVia Meijtir has used all his influence, and been very assiduous m striving to attain the desired object. We are glad to see that there is at length a prospect of something tangible, m the suggested direction being achieved. A letter was read last evening at the Borough Council meeting, from the General Survey Office, Wellington, m reply to a copy of a former resolution of the Council, i*equesting the Government to take steps to have a road line surveyed to connect the district with the block m question. The reply stated that " the survey of the road referred to will be considered when the survey of the lands on the east side of the Range is m hand." This may be considered as so far satisfactory, and as an implied assurance that the important matter alluded to will not be lost sight of by the Government. We feel sure that m this respect the letter from the Council has been productive of good results.
