HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
It is perhaps fair to state, now when certain sneering remarks are being published, that an entertainment was promised by a certain person m. aid of the funds of the Society, the advertising oi the programme of which entailed some preliminary expenses. The proposal fell through, but the cost is still sought to be saddled on the Society.: If faith had been kept with the Society there should have been a profit instead of a lo*s. tut that was no fault, of the Society or its managing' Committee. [ The only mistake they appear to have; made^was m entertaining the proposal, and so incurring a debt iv reference to which they arc now taunted. But there are wheels within wheels, and if investigated it is probable the sneering allusions would be found to be the outcome of a vory petty feeling 1 of personal animus.
