A special meeting of th'e.m^mbers of the above Club was held on Saturday evening m the Commercial Hotel, at S o'clock, . Mr F. Jenssen occupied the chair, and explained that the meeting had been called at the request of three members of the Club, to enqaire as to the cause of the resignation of Mr James King, and for adopting new rules. It appeared there had been some misuriderv standing between some members of the Clab and Mr James King, and tbe latter gentleman thereby eons'dered himself aggrieved. Some correspondence bad taken place between Mr King and the Secretary on the subject, which would be laid before the meeting. The correspondence wbb then read by the Secretary. Mr Perkins as one who signed tho requisition to call the meeting said it would be a pity if there was any disunion among the members of the Club, Mr King had worked hard for the welfare of the Club, and he thought that the difference which existed should be bridged oyer as speedily as possible. With this view he would propose the following resolutions :— «' That the Manawatu Racing Club did not authorise any of. the members to inform Mr King that his services were about to be recognised m any shape whatever.' , f'That the Club^ admit that Mr King's honoary services' were 'deserving of recognition, should such have been required by Mr King." ! " That the Club, so far as they know, can acquit Mr King ot any improper practices with regard to the running ot Inanaga at the late meeting." Mr Perkins spoke m support of the resolutions, and for the reasons he gave niged their adoption by the meeting. Mr Walker seconded the resolution. Mr Caverhill considered the best c urse would be for the meeting to endorse the action of the Committee, I and moved as an amendment : That 1 tiiis meeting endorse the action of the Committee, at the meeting held on the 28th August. ' After some discussion, Mr Perkins said he would withdraw his resolution, provided the amendment was so altered as to permit the resolutions as passed by the Committee to appear m the public press. This was indeed the only object the promote, s oi the meeting had m view, and all that Mr King required so as to place himself right m the eyes of tho public. Tb.9 resolutions as passed by the Committee would not be seen by the public. Mr Caverhill would consent to adopt this course, he would add to his amendment the word " namely." It would then read : — -"That this meeting endorses the action of the Committee meeting held on the 28th August, viz ; — K . That the Committee decline to submit Mr King's letter to a general meeting as such a course is quite uncalled for. " That the question of recognition of Mr King's services has never been discussed by the Committee and they have not been connected, or have aay knowledge of any promises to Mr King m this respect. - «. Ttatif Mr King will inform the Committee what members of the Club were the promises referred to, the Committee will be happy to enquire into the mater. '* That the article m the Wanganui •paper did not, so far as the Committee know, emanate from any member of the Club, and that the Committee was and is quite satisfied with the bona fides of Inanga's running. "JThat the Committee have always valued Mr King's services as Hon. Sec. and as a member of Committee, and are very sorry that he found it necessary to _.ive up the appointment of Secretary.
