• The Pest is give > to understand that it is not un ikely that the b.s. Waihi, anc one or two bmall steamers belonging to the Union Company's fleet, will shortly be fitted with chambers for the conveyance of carcases of meat from Blmheim, Napier, New Pljmouvh, and intermediate ports to the w »rks ot the Wellington Meat Export Company en Waterloo Quay. Negotiations with that end m view are n»w iv pro ; re.v between the director* of the Union Company and those of the Meat Com pany, and it is expected th>»t a satis tactory arrangement will shortly be a r rived at. If tbe proposal is agreed to, the vessels will be provided with compartments constructed m such a manner that carcases ot mutton and beef can be placed m them and brought to Wellington for freezing m as sweet a condition as it only killed an hour previously . The Export Company will thus be enabled to derive their supplies of meat from neighbouring ports much more expeditiously than otherwise, and the owners of live stock will also benefit by the urra. gement which we have reterreu to,
