Phcebe Veitch, the WangaDui child murderess, has been sent away to Wellington, where for the present she will remain at tha central penal establishment there. He was charged with using obscene and abusive language m Manners-street, on the 4th instant. He had been twice convicted of the same offence within three months, being each time fined £10 or a month's hard labor. Other offences of drunkenness varied the monotony of his existence. W hen summoned for the present ottence he refused to appear, and was brought up on a warrant. The Justices 6 n the Bench let him off lightly as compared with previous sentences by the Resident Magistrate They fiued him £5, or a fortnight's -hard labor,/and to pay the. costs. A regatia at Eversham, England, was followed by 68 cases of typhoid fever among persons who attended it. An m» vestigation developed the fact that nearly every one had drunk lemonade at a re» freshment etarid, the proprietor of which had mixed the beverage with water from a disused well that was closed because it . was known to be foul.
