The other day a Kansas mob demanded that a negro who' had outraged a child should ba-haadod-ovor to them. ■Jlha-^sheriff : refused, whereupon there was a fusillade at the windows and doors of the gaol, which wera riddled! !Fout men were wounded by the return fire, and the mob were repulsed. Later on the mob, numbering a thous md,. re« turned to the charge and batterel m the outer doors. When the inner doors were attacked, the negro cut his throat with a pocket -knifa which he had con* cealed. A howling throng attacked the cell, put a rope round the man's neck, dragged him through the streets, and hanged him upon a tree. At {he inquest held on the body a verdict of suicide was returned >
