Agricultural depression, observes an English jonrnal, would appear to have a wide field, for we find there are distressed tobacco planters. Owing it is said to the low prices of tobacco m Europe the tobacco cultivation, once so fl >urish : ng m the island of Javw, is rapidly declining the planters being m consequence much distressed. The " Java Bode," a Dutch local journal, states that lately m the astern portion of that island three estates were sold collectively for the trifling sum of 5700 guilders , though only three years ago a brick tobacco shed on one of them cost 400,000 guilders.
