COUNTY COUNCIL

At the meeting held yesterday, there | were present — (Jrs Rockstrow (cliairman), Hadfield, Hanson, Mcßetb, Fry, McLennan, and Gray. A considerable amount of business of no special interest was transacted. The late rate collector, Mr F. Mow* lem, Bent m a statement of accounts, which did not appear to give the Council entire satisfaction. After some considerable discussion it was moved by Cr Sanson, seconded by Cr Hadfield, and carried, That Mr Moslem's account be re erred to the Finance Comruiuee. It was decided that the rabbits said to be existing m the .Palmers ton gravelpit be destioyed at the Government expense. Cr Gray presented a memorial praying that the Foxton Highway District be abolished and merged into the County Council. The petition was Bigned by 46 ratepayers. Cr Gray moved, Cr McLennan seconded, and it was carried, That the petition be received, and m due course be given effect to, provided no counterp'tiiion as required by the Act was prej sented with n vhe prescrib d period. Cr Hadfield moved, Or Fry seconded, atui it was carried, That the Chairman be requested to take thg necessary steps to have that portion of the Foxton-Otaki road -line from Otaki to where it turns tj the northward gazetted.

Cr fcanson moved, the Chairman seconded, and it was parried, That. the, resolution passed at the meeting held on 27th November, 1878, giving permission to the Foxton and Sanson Kaiiway Company to construct a railway from Carnarvon Junction to Sandon, be rescinded, with a view of this Council proceeding to construct a tramway on the line of road referred to m said resolution.

Cr Hanson moyed, Cr McLennan seconded, and it was earned, That ten* ders for collecting the doer- tax for the fullowi ig lidingo be accepted, viz., — Kawakawa, Ellerra, £20 ; Taonui, Graff, £18 ; Horowhenua, A. Knocks, £10; Manchester, Ellerm, £18 ; Awahou, Ellerin, £7 ; and that fresh tenders be called for the collection of the dogtax m the ridings of Uroaa and Kiwitea. Tenders to bo m time for next meeting. Mr McLean presented a wages- | sheet, which, as it included the day of meeting, was referred back to him to be amended. Accounts amounting to £136 33 were passed for payment, and the Council ad« journed till the first Thursday m February. ______________
