RIWAKA.

The social and dance held in MrThomas Macmahon's Kiln last Friday evening in aid of the funds of the "Valley Cricket Club, was, as we predicted, a great success, both in point of numbers, the excellence of the refreshments and the sociability of all who attended. Dancing was commenced at 8 o'clock, Mr D. Mickell efficiently acting as ' M.C, and Mr Ralph Bate furnishing capital dance music, as usual, the extras being played by several ladies. About 70 persons were present and the floor was filled for every dance. During th& proceedings songs were sung by -Mrs Goodyer (3), Miss H. Banfield, Messrs L. Budden, Kerwen (3) and Y. Rowlings (%), some of the vocalists being encored. A stump speech was given by Mr Fairey, which was well received. An excellent supper was handed round and the assemblage broke up shortly after two o'clock.
