Another lot of 20 Angora goats has been purchased by the Agricultural Department to be added to the small flock already located at the Levin State Farm. The Angoras have been, rather extensively bred in South Africa so a representative of the Manawatu Times learnt from Mr Lane, one of the Boei delegates. This gentleman stated that the goats, do not do well on good pasture land, plough, hilly or bush land being more suitable for them. They pay, and pay well, said Mr who mentioned that he himself had received from Is 3d to Is 6d a pound for Angora wool.

A woman named Guildford was fatally injured through an accident at Surrey Hills, Victoria. She was lighting a spirit lamp when it exploded, scattering the contents over her face and arms. Her dress burst into flames. Her httle daughter ran to her assistance, and was burned about the hands in her endeavour to beat out the blaze. The mother's condition was hopeless from the first, and she died the same night. The steamer Energy is still engaged in the search for the Chinese coffins from the Ventnoi, along the coast north of Hokianga, under instructions from the syndicate which took the work in hand. So far ten coffins have been found on the beach, besides pieces of cabin furniture, fittings, etc. It is understood that a big order has come from Capetown for oats, and that three large steamers will shortly make their appearance in Southern waters to load for South Africa. The fruit crop this year in "South Australia is exceptionally heavy arid the quality very fine. The raspberrv crop is phenomenal, and prices are consequently much lower than usual. Plums are also very abundant: But for large demands from Victoria, the local market should have been glutted. Large quantities have been exported, j and this has kept prices fairly good.
