BOXING DAY.
The attendance at tbe military sports on Boxing Day was not so good as was expected, owing no doubt, to the threatening appearance of the weather during the morning. A number of visitors came from Nelson by the S.S. Lily, and speaking from personal experience, the passengers had a very rough time. The sports, which wete held in Mr Staples’ paddock, were successfully carried out, each competition being 'well contested. The Motueka Brass Band, foi whose accommodation a large and commodious marquee was provided by the committee, discoursed music at intervals during the day. The refreshment booth was in charge of Mrs Sehroeder. who catered to the wants of all and sundry in a manner which sustained the reputation this lady has as a popular caterer. The Licensed Victualler’s booth was in charge of Mr F. Talbot for the licensee. Mis S. A. Boyce, of the Swan Hotel. Thatlpopular organiser of local sports and pastimes, Mr G. Jenkins, acted as honorary clerk of the course and got all events off well to time.
