The next publication will be on Tuesday, the 6th January, after which the Star will shine with regularity during the year 1903, and henceforth. We take this opportunity of wishing one and all a Happy New Year. Mr Harry Hendon, formerly with Messrs Brown and Kerr, of Motueka, passed through Wellington yesterday, en route for Napier, where he has secured an appointment. Mr J. C. Black-more, the Government Poinologist, wired to us yesterday from Uawrence, Otago, as follows :—Thanks for particulars re opening factory. Meantime I hope you will endeavour to urge growers to fully utilise their superior advantages for fruit growing, which your district undoubtedly posesses. There were a large number of visitors to Motueka during the Xmas season and on Christmas Eve the township was full of people, the toy and confectionery vendors apparently did a roaring trade. The Motueka Brass Band turned out during the evening and played a few selections. The business places and some of the private houses were decorated with Chinese lanterns and evergreens. The telegraph staff were at work until a late hour receiving and delivering telegrams presumably containing the season’s greetings. Notwithstanding that we have now a uniformed constable the town was particularly orderly, as usual. On Christmas Day a service was held at the Anglican Church, which was conducted by Archdeacon Wright: Old Age Pensions in this land Have proved a marked success, They give the old a helping hand, And keep them from distress. There’s only just one other thing That’s needful to ensure Sound lungs that we the praise can sing Of WOOD’S GREAT PEPPERMINT CURE .
