A chemist is about to start in business at Takaka. Going ahead, sure-ly. At a meeting of the committee of the Takaka Mounted Rifles, held last Tuesday, it was decided to accept an invitation from the Stoke and Motueka Mounted Rifles, to take part in a triangular shooting match at Motneka on the 18th instant. The conditions are to be ten men a side, and seven shots each at 300, 500, and 600yds.—News. The following is the team selected from the Motueka Mounted Rifles : Sergeants. Askew, Chittenden, Corporal Cate, Troopers Coppins, Scott, Haycock, Moffatt, B rereton, Loveridge and Cook. The final meeting of the Literary and Debating Society was held last night when there was a good attendance of members and the public. The proceedings took the form of a social evening, the chaii being occupied by Rev. W. Wills. Songs were given by Misses M. Brougham and M. Gilbert, Messrs Gilbert (2), Greensill, Wilkes and recitations by Messrs H. Everett, Macmahon, Macaulay and Wilkes. The evening was most enjoyable and at its conclusion votes of thanks were accorded to the President, Secretary and to Miss Deck for the use of the piano.
