A Taranaki farmer finds that a good plan to clear blackberry infested land is to run pigs on it. The pigs are very fund of the blackberry root, and will grub ait out of the soil. Several farms the district are said to have been cleared out of the pest in this manner. A Mataura correspondent writes : As showing the fertility of the soil, Mr Charles Cooper has just dug 100 bags of sound table potatoes from half an acre of ground on his Townend Farm, Gore. The varieties are Derwents, Up-to-date, and White Elephant, some of the last-named sort weighing over 21b each. At the beginningof last month there were one ex-Inspector, seven ex-ser-geants, eleven ex-constables, one exdetective, one widow and 3 children drawing pensions from the Police Provident Fund, their aggregate annual allowance being .£1896 14s 9d. *** JOB PRINTING of every description executed with neatness and despatch at the Motueka Star Office
