RIWAKA ROAD BOARD.
The usual, monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Oct 4th. Present: Messrs Bate (chairman), Drummond, Fry, Cook, James, and Woolf. Correspondence received from:—C. H. Mills M.H.R. notifying receipt of Board's letter re foreshore Riwaka Harbor; Lands and Survey Dept. Nelson, approving of certain expenditure by day work out of Kaiteriteri-Riwaka Road Grant also that application of balance of Grant had been certified; Thos Pattie forwarding resolution passed by Fruitgrowers; R. Fry, drawing attention to stray horses and cattle; J. Thomas applying for right to cut willow hop poles along old mill road; C. Jenkin asking for a small grant to reinstate old Takaka road. The following applications for ranger to the Board were received: Edward Goodman (accepted) Leslie Duncan. The following resolutions were passed: That the accounts presented be paid including those held over from last meeting: Cheques were signed for 12s id: that Mr Thomson be informed that the Board does not deem it advisable to have the poles referred to cut at present time ; That the Secretsry obtain two copies each of the Drainage and Impounding Acts; That the sum of 12s be expended on work in creek in Mr Trewavas's land Brooklyn; That tenders be invited for the formation of the remainder of Loaders road and to be gravelled when formation thoroughly set; That applications be invited to be sent in by next meeting of the Board for the position as dayman for the Riwaka end of the district at 6s per day; That the Board grant the sum of £1 "towards improving the Old Takaka road leading to Mr Jenkins land providing those interested provide an equivalent sum; That the necessary steps be taken to insure the Board's wages men to the amount of under the Worker's Compensation Act, to be insured in the Ocean Accident Company; That the amount of ;£io be expended in the reduction of the small bird nuisance.
