PERILOUS ENCOUNTER WITH A SHARK.

On the 29th of April, while five young soldiers, stationed at Corfu, were Sailing along at a rapid rate, the boat in which they were received a sudden shock, as if it had run upon a rock, and nearly capsized her. Flowers fceized a knife, which was stuck in tlio side of the boat, plunged head first into the water, and diving underneath tlio shark, turned himself on his back, and thrust the knife into the monster in several places, lint it was of little use, for the shark had seized upon Hanson, and taken his leg oil - near the knee. Flowers then endeavoured to get his comrade on his back, but both of them were nearly exhausted. Ho succeeded, however, ill getting- him into the boat, ami bound up the wound with his shirt. When they reached the hospital, the unfortunate comrade was nearly dead from exhaustion ; but after a short time he recovered. While ou their way, they captured the wounded shark, and towed it on shore. It weighed £ll lbs., and. when opened, the leg was found in its throat, with tlio bone mangled to bits.
