Pyke, in a letter to the Sufefihtendeat; points out that the de "facto' Gold Duty-Be* payment Ordinance is laWi inasmuch as the Governor did not exercise his power of disallowance within three months after passing thereof—October 15th, on which date the Bill wa3 disallowed, being three months exactly. The ' Star' says that Steward does not seek re-election for "Waitaki, nor M'Glashan for Boslyn. For the latter seat Driver has been asked to stand ; if he consents, his election is' certain.

Dr. Honeywill has been fined 40s. for personating a detective. In the course of his evidence he stated f hat he was in receipt of several thousand pounds uuder a will. At Stirling swamp the Water covered the railway line to the depth of seve= ral inches. .
