The 'Cromwell: Argus' states : that it is' currently reported; amongst a number who ought to know that .Mr. MacKellar intends to offer himself as a candidate for the Dunstan district at the ensuing election for the' House of Representatives.

At the last monthly meeting at the Arrow' Miners' Association the following resolution was carried—ThalTa request.be forwardeA : itf the General Government, praying for' such provision to be made in the Local Government Bill as will provide that the special taxation raised in each Goldfields district be placed at the disposal of a Board of Miners for public woiks, such Board will be elected by the miners of the district. The resolution has been forwarded to the Secretary of the Central Association by whom no doubt it will forwarded to Head quarters. At a recent meeting of ths Clyde' Muni cipal Council convened to fis the annual rate* the ' Dunstan Times' reports' that "The" Mayor having explained the object of the meeting, the Town Clerk read a letter 'from the Agent of the Bank of New South Wales referring to the probable liability of the Town, and suggested that a 2s. 6J. in the £1 rate be levied. The latter was received as read. Discussion ttow ensued respecting the' rate, resulting in a resolution that the rate be is. 6d. in the £l."
