Dunedin, Thursday Evening. The Dunedin Presbytery has been occupied all to day considering "Wales' action in voting for the Deceased Wife's Sister Marriage Bill, and ordered the First Church session records, by which it appears that Wales was rejected as deacon on account of his vote.
Reynolds addressed a crowded meeting of the electors last night. He denied emphatically that he had ever given a pledge to retire from the Ministry if total abolition was insisted on. He thought that had he been directly asked he would have Baid he was opposed to the abolition of Otago and Canterbury as Provinces ; but when he found the feeling in the House so strong in favor of total abolition he tried to secure as good a measure as poESi'de. The immediate passage" of the bill was absolutely necessary to prevent hungry Provincial combinations. He
Was opposed to all the present proposals for insular, separation or the creation of two or moire Provinces, There had been no wariztter advocate for financial separation than hxniaelf, but the session of 1872 convinced him of the utter hopelessness of the proposal,' Auckland would never agree to it unless the compact of 1556 was broken. He warned the Otago constituencies tc carefully consider that point. He was subjected to a heavy questioning, lasting nearly three fo:if§.
