EMPHATIC DENIAL.
(To tho Editor of the Mown Ida Chbonigle.) Pigburn Gorge Farm. Sib,—A letter appeared in your last issue, signed "Intending Settler," and, an absurd notion having got abroad that I am its author, for the satisfaction of my friends I beg to state, and my oldest and most intimate acquaintances can prove, that at the present time I am not less Bane, more childish, or more disposed to meddle with other people's affairs tlmn for the last ten years; neither have I suffered from the effects of drink for a very considerable time. I hope it is only under one or other of the above conditions that' I could write such a letter. Your insertion of the above declaration will satisfy .all who know me that " Intending Settler" is other than your - humble servant.—l am, &c., Thomas Fostee. P.S.—From anyone who may, after seeing the above declaration, still suspect me of such vindictiveness, or as being capable of writing such absurdities, except under serious mental derangement, I shall expect a most humble apology.
