POLITICAL.

■(Per favor of the Mount Ida Chuonicle.) j To the Electors of Mount Ida, —Fellow •electors, the time is last approaching when you will be called upon to elect a representative, to represent your interests in "the next Parliament of New Zealand. I hope when that time comes that you will throw all petty jealousies aside, and select a man of integrity, and principle, a man who will look after the material interests nr.d welfare of the residents of the Mount Ida district, and who will also take a large and comprehensive view of the present state of New Zealand and politics. In the next-parliament the destinies of New Zealand are to be shaped for weal or woe. The Local Government Bill to be introduced next session will again raise that great Constitution question—the Abolition of Provinces; and it is my opinion' that instead of Abolition, we shall have insular scperatioh, and a federal form of Government for settling all Colo- : nial questions: a form of Government far more preferable for the Goldfields districts, than the centralising one lately passed. At the next election we are sure to have a plethora of candidates, each wooing the sweet charms of Ida, and each promising, if need be, to die for her sake. ' I havo no confidence in these strangers coming from a distance. Their ways are not our ways. They would never understand Ida's rustic simplicity. They would be always taunting her with her country ignorance, and treating her children as step-children; and perhaps at the' same time some of themselves of doubtful reputation. So my dear Ida, let not yourself nor your children make rash promises. You will havo plenty of candidates to win jour affection, and you. have yet four months to choose. Above all, beware of

lawyers and squatters.-r—l remain, my dearest Ida, a faithful friend, . ' Yxndex. Naseby, 26th October, 1875.
