ARROW DISTRICT MINERS ASSOCIATION.
(Forwarded through tie courtesy of the Chairman,), The usual meeting of the above bodywas held in the Library Hall, Arrowtown,. on the 4th instant, and the following is a: resume of the business transacted : . It was resolved to pass a hearty vote' of thanks to Mr. de Lautour, M.P.C.,and. to Mr. V. Pyke, M.H.E., fortheir efforts; to reduce the export duty on-gold. TheCommittee also expressed their satisfaction that the reports of the Mining Conferences of 1872 and 1874 were brought under the attention of the Government by; the Goldfields Committee. Mr. E, Clarke, M.P.C., was elected an hon. member of Committee, and Mr. M'Whirter was appointed to act as deputy for Mr. P. Mcols, who lives at too great a distance to attend meetings regirlarly.
Mr. J. F. Healey was elected VicePresident. '
The Committee very strongly expressed: their disapprobation of the way this district has been treated by the Government „ by the arbitrary removal of its Wardens. Since the removal of Mr. Stratford serious irregularities crept into the Arrow Court on account of insufficient supervision, and since the departure cf Mr. Eeetham the inconveniences are multiplied. The Secretary was instructed to remonstrate with the Secretary for Goldfields against such, treatment.
All the members present resolved themselves into a Sub-Committee to devise means and ways to raise funds for; theerection of a building to serve for a -Miners' Institute and Museum, and adjourned till July 17th, when it was proposed to discuss the scheme of an art union with nothing but substantial prizes^
