The application of John Eccles to purchase a an-acre at the head of Home Gully,„was heard in the presence of Henry Anderson,/as -Manager-of the Hit or Miss Company, who withdrew his objection. .. Evidence ,was'taken to the position of the land in regard to the. diggings, and it was stated that if a; tailrace werecut r, down-to the Dead Level from the auriferous ground near the -land applied for,-:-the area, as a freehold, would in no way interfere; that the depth all over thearea, did not exceed three feet; that it would not- be required for head or tail .races to work the adjoining ground; that it has been prospected, and proved nonauriferous, and was fronting the main roa'd to Dunedin; that the Miners Asso.,cia,tion; had been consulted; .and had noobjection to~the sale; and that the Hit orMiss Company (whose head; race pasged •near the area)j''having considered the ob- ; jections since making them on May 2nd, had f -thought ; fit to -withdraw all opposition: - - 1 :
