Same defendant for resisting the police was fined £2, or fourteen days' imprisonment; and, for damaging Constable Walsh's uniform, was ordered to pay the sum of £3—being the price of the property injured. * Mat, 21. (Before H. A. Stratford; Esq., 8,. M., and L. W. Busch, Esq,., J.P.) J. H. Gason was charged by the" Inspector of Nuisances with allowing his chimney to take fire. The defendant said that there had been no neglect in keeping the chimney clean. The Bench considered that the charge was a trivial I one, and dismissed the'case. ; T. Pinder and Enchcl Grace, charged , with similar offences, were each fined 55., and ss. 6d. costs. llobert Keenan was charged by the police with neglecting to keep a light burning on his licensed house, the Ovens Hotel. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined Is., and costs ss. 6d. Alfred H. Keene v. Mary George.— Abusive language. Case dismissed. Mary George v. Alfred H. Keene.— Assault and battery. _Case dismissed. The Bench considered that both of the above cases arose out of a drunken row, and that both parties were to blame. Morgan v. Craig.—Abusive language. Case dismissed in consequence of an error as to the date in the information. (Before H. A. Stratford, Esq , TI.M) J. Brown v. 11. A. Cpwper.—Claim of £l3. Judgment by default for amount claimed, with costs. Keene v. George.—£9 19s. 6d. In this case a set off was pleaded part of the claim admitted, and payment pleaded to the balance. It was a most confusing case, and resulted in a judgment the plaintiff for £1145., the amount admitted —the defendant being allowed fourteen days in which to bring.an action on apart of the set off which had been disallowed.
