The application' of Joseph Leys and Dogherty for a tail race was heard. Messrs. "Currie and Marshall appeared to object, A petition by residents was pre-
sented by Mr. Rowlatt against the -ap- 1 plication as far as regards the Recreation; Ground, and a counter petition in mining: interests for it. The "Warden ruled .that Warden Robinson's decisions'concerning Currie's interests held good, and, after hearing Marshall's, his also on the same basis. No difficulty •would he put iu the applicants' way in regard to the Court House, but a document would have to be drawn up, containing a guarantee to protect the Court House from injury. The General Government would favor the j application, but the hearing would have to be adjourned to obtain the sanction of his Honor the .Superintendent to. withdraw a certain portion of the Recreation Ground from his proclamation of 1872, by which it was set aside for poses.
