MR. THOMAS GOGARTY.
In our Saturday's edition of last week wo briefly recorded the sudden death of Mr. Thomas Gogarty at Clark's Diggings. r Genial hearted, good natured, and an active and enterprising miner, this gentleman has been widely known nnd respected throughout the district. In 1863 he came to the; Hogburn, and in 1865 settled at Clark's, in partnership with Mr. Greer, till about two years ago, when a dissolution by "mutual consent took place, and Mr. Greer settled in Naseby, Mr. Gogarty remaining at Clark's. As a large employer of labor, he contributed liberally to,' the benefit of the community, while, ho one ,wlu> had business transactions with him had ever reason to complain of loss or unreasonable delays in settlement of accounts. A man of good education, sound common sense, a fluent speaker, active, strong, and generally .popular, Mr:.Gogarty could not have failed in attaining independent prosperity and influence in his day. The thief had, howeve"r, stolen in—self harbored—to steal away the brain; and so one more—one who could.ill be spared—falls untimely a victim, with no enemy but himself—with no one but who wished him well. A widoyv'and infant daughter are left to mourn his.loss.
