MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of ilie Council was held at the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening last. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Inder, Craig, Brookes, and Wilson.
The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.
CORRESPONDENCE. —OUTWARDS : Copy of letter to Provincial Secretary, enclosing resolution passed at last meeting to obtain powers by Ordinance to construct or purchase Water Works, under the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Water Works Act, 1872. Copy of letter to A. Gr. B. Mitchell, informing him of his appointment as gearman and Secretary to the Naseby Volunteer Fire.Brigadeat a salary of £l2 per annum. . - Copy of letter to Provincial Treasurer, calling attention to a communication from the Town Clerk, dated 10th December last, in reference to certain licenses due and unpaid to the Corporation. INWARD : a Letter from the Inspector of Nuisances, calling the attention of the Council to the numerous complaints wade to him in reference to horses and cattle wandering about the public streets, in the town, the owners of which he is frequently unable :to find, and suggesting as a remedy that i some properly enclosed place be set apart as a temporary pound, in conformity with Bye-Law VI, sec. 2. —Referred to General purposes Committee, to report at next meeting. Letter from "Under-Secretary; in reply to Town Clerk's, stating that the Provincial Solicitor had been instructed to prepare a Bill for the next Session of the Provincial Council'to .extend the provisions of. the Municipal' Corporations Water Works Act, 1x72, to Naseby. Letter from Mr. E. T. G-eorge, soliciting, extension of time to enable him to remove encroachments on Tay-street. Letter from Mr. Wm: Grumitt to the same effect. Letter from Mr. Michael Brookes, on behalf of the Catholic Church Committee, asking the sanction "of the Council to an application to the Waste Lands Board to purchase a site selected for building a Catholic Church. Granted. EXTENSION OF TIME.. Moved by Cr. : Craig, seconded by Cr. Inder, ana carried George and Grumitt-be allowed an extension of time till the 14th March next to remove,encroachments from Tay-street.

Move^d, by Cr. Wilson, seconded by Cr. Craig, and lost taken by the Council to sink for water at some convenient! place in Derwent-street, to be afterwards secured, and that a public pipe be erected." / 4 FIRE BRIGADE. Moved by Cr. Craig,-seconded by Cr. Inder, and carried—" That the Corporation procure an additional length of hose for the Fire Brigade." FINANCE. . The following accounts were passed for payment Auditors, £4 45.; Millar, £1 17s. 6d.; Morrison and Langniaak, £3 j John Morrison, £1 3s. :
