RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Tuesday, Jajtuaey 20ts. (Beforo JI. W. Robinson, Esq., R.M.) William Moeller was brought -up charged by the police with being drunk and disorderly on Saturday the 17th, and habitual'drunkenness. Pined 305., beinjr strongly cautioned that if he was again brought up he would get three months—his present escape only being for the represent ation that, he had some work in hand at once.
Januaet 22nd. Hjorring v.-Snell.—Claim of £2 16s. 7d ; for. goods supplied. Judgment bv default for amount claimed, with cost's 13s. Paulina Koch .v. Horswo 1 .!.—Claim o e £5, balance, of leged that.she h;id been engaged as cook at the defendant's hoi el (W loss, the fir-t wqclc. and f\ afimrard. lor aslomr as she chose to'stay, and lhat she left after eloren weeks without warning. I n cross-
examination, however,, "the plaintiiF admitted that she understood that she had* been engaged at first for three months -it . £1 a week, but that the defendant had subsequently repudiated a three months'" ' - engagement. This was strongly denied by both the defendant and his wife, who produced a book containing a note of the ' agreement for three months made at the time. It was also proved'for the defence - that £7 19s. had been paid on account, in lieu of £6 155., as alleged by the plaintiff. „ His Worship in giving, judgment, said he considered the three months' engagement had been fully proved/and that, as the plaintiff had'left without "cause during the three months, she could not recover the accrued -wages. Judgment for defendant, with 21s. professional fee.
