RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Monday, Novembeb 17th. (Before H. W. Robinson, Esq., R.M.) William Manson v. William Flynn.—Debt, £lB. Defendant admitted £17105., for which judgment was recorded, by consent, with 19s. costs. Michael Dillon v. John Farmer and John Creighton.—Debt, £34105. 3d., being amount of dishonored cheque. Mr. Rowlatt for plaintiff. It appeared that the summons had only been served upon John Farmer, and judgment was entered against him alone for £34 10s. 3d., with £1 10s. costs of Court, and £1 Is. professional costs. Breach of Dog Nuisance Ordinance.—E. A. Aimies appeared to answer the charge of Constable Blair that on 7th October he had a dog that was not registered. Mr. Aimies said that the constable had warned him to get the dog registered before a certain day, and that he had given the animal away during that period. The Bench ruled that there was no alternative but to inflict a fine—there bein«* nothing in the Ordinance to entitle owners of dogs to any warning. Fined 405., with ss. 6d. costs.

Tuesday, Not. 18th. Jane Alexander was brouqrht up on a chaige of stealing from the store of John L. Butterworth, trustee in the estate of James Alexander, certain articles of drapery, value about £B. Mr. Rowlatt appeared to watch the case. She was remanded to Saturday, 22nd—bail being accepted. Wednesday, Nov. 18th. (Before H. W. Robinson, Esq., R.M., and L. W. Busch, Esq., J.P.) Jane Alexander, who had been admitted to bail on the previous day, appeared before the Court. Mr. Newmarch,- agent for the trustee, stated that there was no desire to press the charge. Sub-Inspector M'Cluskey stated that he was not in a position to go on with the case, and asked that the accused be discharged. Discharged accordingly. Sub-In-spector M'Cluskey abked what should be done with the property found in possession of the accused. Mr. Rowlatt had no objection to offer to its being restored to the trustee. The Bench ordered the property to be restored.
