MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in the Naseby Water Works office on Wednesday evening last. Present— His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Craig, Hjorring, de Lautour, Brookes, and Wilson. Minutes of last ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Inward.—From the Under Secretary, acquainting the Council that the necessary proclamation will appear in the ' Gazette,' extending parts 13, .18, 20, and 22 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1867 to the Naseby Municipality. From R. Webber and party, for permission to work the street adjoining their claim. From the Town Clerk, asking for an increase to his salary, in consequence of the numerous and responsible duties he has to perform. Telegram from his Honor the Superintendent (see article Telegraph Extension). From the Secretary Presbyterian Church, calling attention to the shameful and dangerous state of the road leading from Der-went-street past the Masonic Hall to the Presbyterian Church, and requesting the evil should be remedied. WEBBER AND PARTY'S APPLICATION". Resolved Messrs. Webber and Moore's application be adjourned till the first meeting of the Council in January, 1874." STREET LEADING- TO PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. Resolved—"That the Town Clerk be instructed to write Lo the manager of the Home-ward-Bound Company, informing him of the liability of the Company, m accordance with their signed bond, to keep opentlie communication of the street leading past the Masonic Hall, and to insist on a gravel footpath, or the'whole road, being made goo I to the Church." TOWN CLERK'S APPLICATION. Resolved—" That the application made by the Town Clerk be considered at nest ordinary meeting." REPORT. ' The Committee for Public Purposes reported that they still had the matter of Carriers' Paddock under consideration, finding it very difficult, to devise a justifiable plan that they could recommend to the Council, at the expense of the rate-payers." RATE. Resolved—" That the rate be collected in one payment, for the sake of convenience." EORMING LEVEN AND EARN-STREET3. Resolved— " That Leven-street, from 20 yards above the brewery to about Miller's stables, be formed and repaired; that the footpath be also formed ; and that kerbing and channeling be executed where necessary. Also, that similar works be executed in Earnstreet; and that it be referred to the General Purposes Committee, to devise plans and specifications, and to call for tenders." LAMPS. A motion by Cr. Craig—"That a lamp be erected at Law's, corner," was lost. A similar motion by Cr. Craig—" That a lamp be erected at or near the bridge crossing the Extended Company's race at the main road," was also lost: the Council considering that the near approach of summer would make these lamps unnecessary. COMMONAGE. Resolved—" That all papers and documents in the hands of the Council, bearing upon the matter of Commonage, be handed to Crs. Craig, the Mayor (with his consent), and the mover Cr.de Lautour—to report with expedition upon the same."
