MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
j The usual fortnightly meeting' of the Council was held iu the Victoria Hall on j Tuesday last. Present: his Worship the ! Mayor, and Crs Wilson, Brown, Busch, J Tore, and Brookes. The minutes of the last ordinary ..and special meetings were read and confirmed on the motion of Or Wilson. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was received and read:— L?tt.er the Flagstaff Committee/ offering the nag and staff to'the Corporation upon-payment of a debt of £8 lis. ! 6i. (due to John Morrison's estate), which was agreed to be paid. Letter from Sergeant M'Cluskey, recommending Constable Grey for the office of Inspector of Nuisances, at a salary of £lO per annum. . Resolved that Constable Grey be appointed to the office." 1 Letter from Mr Mervyn, M.P.C.. inrep'y to questions asked respecting the making of main roads and subsidy, in which he stated 'that he "would ask the question about the main roads, ancl that he hoped to hare the sum of £3OO placed upon the Estimates for this Municipality. Letter from Mr M. 3. Duffy, llyde, stating that the boring rods were complete, and in the same condition as he received them. The matter was left in the hands of the Town Clerk, to arrange as to delivery. - C! ROSSI XG ; IN BOACh's GULLY. The report of the Committee appointed re crossing, in Roach's Gull} r , "was read and adopted, with the condition attached that ihe work do not exceed £lO. TOWN HALL. The consideration of the report of the Committee appointed to select a site for the proposed Town Hall was postponed, on the motion of Cr Wilson, till next meeting. . . FlftE BELL. The tender of Mr John Morrison, for the removal and erection of the fire bell r was accepted—for £5, including paint. STSEKT LAMPS. Moved by Cr Wilson, seconded by Cr Busch, and carried —" That the Council erect three lamps for Derwent-street: the first to be placed at the bridge ; the second, opposite school reserve; the third at the corner of Cemetery road. Said ! lamps to be kept burning during the ! months of Ma} r . June, July, and August, ; .■uid that the carrying out of the same.be j entrusted to the General Purposes Com- . ! mit-tee." . -,. '..-.- I FINANCE COMMITTEE. ! The report of the Finance Committee was read and adopted,'recommending the oayment of accounts to the amount of £3 7s. 6d. NOTICES OF MOTION. Notices of molion by Cr Brown —"That ; Iveswick-street be formed, and covered i .vith nine inches of coarse takings, and ! :hat tenders be called for the construction :>f the work ;" also—" That the Council •ecommend the Superintendent that all public reserves within the Municipality _>e thrown open to the miners for the pur* oose of mining for gold."
