WASTE LANDS BOARD.
{From the 'S.tar.') The usual meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held last week. There were present the Chief Commissioner, and Messrs Tolmie, Strode, Butterworth, and Clark. Mr. Mervyn, on behalf of Messrs J. J. Tamblyn, applied to the Board to adhere to their first decision to sell the land at Roxburgh, applied for by them. The Board had previously determined to sell land, but afterwards reversed . their decision.—Granted. Mr. Begg, for the Hon. E. Campbell, applied for a rehearing of-his application for land in the Maerewhenua district. He said that two Provincial Governments had agreed to sell this. land. Mi\ Stout opposed the rehearing, on the ground that Mr. Begg brought forward no new facts. After some discussion, it was agreed to grant a rehearing. The application was adjourned for a month, and a commission was appointed to report on the general nature of the land, as also en its auriferous nature. Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. and Mr. W. J. J Clarke, applied to. ascertain from the Board' the contemplated mode of procedure in the matter of applications for agricultural leases made under clause 103b; secondly, to bring up the matter of cost of survey of such lands, and the question as to who should pay-';"' thirdiy to ascertain from the Board whether, in the event of the pastoral lessees having at i the end of the three years, made'the./im- i
provemeuts and complied with the other conditions of the said leases, they will her allowed to come under the provisions of clause 62. It was agreed that the ques-' should be referred to the Provincial"Solicitor for his opinion.-. Mr. .Sanders applied to purchase 92 acres of run No. 206 a, his application .tobe taken under the Act of 1866, and not that of 1872.—Granted, on survey being completed. Mr. Clarke proposed that the land in the Waipahi district advertised for sale on the 22nd May should be withdrawn, and the consideration of the sale of it postponed for one month. This, was agreed to, and the Board then adjourned.
