Resident Magistrate's Cotjkt. "... (Before H, W. Eobinaon, Esq., R.M.) Valentine v. Laverty.—£s 4s. 6d., for damage to a sledge and loss of time.v The plaintiff was owner of a sledge which had been left lying at the SixMile Spur. Defendant had used this sledge without the plaintiff's leave, and had broken it. When taxed with doing, so he had admitted the fact, and offered to repair it or submit the matter to ar- : bitration, but these offers were not accepted. The whole case rested on the defendant's admission, which was qualified by the statement that the Bledge was damaged before he began to use i& It was shown in evidence that the; damage cauld be repaired for 15s. Verdict for £2 and costs.

Dufty and Johi Sing, for mining lease of eight acres a Third Bpur, Hyde, adjourned . frou August 17, was now heard. After hearing a grea deal of evidence; aiid visiting the ground the Warden made an arrangement witl the consent of both parties, by whicl the claim of M'Kay should be measure* from .certain pegs agreed upon, and th survey of the lease area altered so a , not to encroach upon the claim as thu» defined. For the area, aa altered, a certificate would issue. L. Matthcwson and Co. (Victoria. Company).—This application was for seven acres, adjoining the area applied for by .Uutfy and Go.*, and including ail area of five acres already held by;-the' applicants, under a lease originally granted to Joseph Wiekham, but whichwould shortly expire. There being no. objection, the Warden'-decided to grant the certificate for a lease. The only other grant was that of a head race to James Quinlan.
