FILM HOLD-UP OVER.
SUPPLIES TO RE RESUMED. Wellington, Nov. 11. After weeks of protracted negotiation between the Government and the American film-distributing companies, which as a protest against the film-hire tax imposed last session held up the industry in the Dominion by refusing to make contracts for further supplies of film to theatres, the deadlock has been 'overcome. “I am pleased to be uJble to announce,” stated the Acting-Prime. Minister (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) this afternoon, “that the hold-up in the film business has ended, and that the supply of film to exhibitors will be resumed.” AH. Ransom added that as previously pointed out by him, the Government was agreeable to a lull inquiry into the question at issue being made early next year, and that would now be arranged. In addition, the Government had undertaken to abolish the present Customs duty of one penny per foot, in consideration of a settlement .being reached. •The Acting-Prime Minister was dis-inclined to discuss the settlement in further detail.
