UNEMPLOYMENT
TELEGRAM TO ACTING-PRIME MINISTER BY FLAXMTLL EMPLOYEE.. The following telegram was forwarded to the Acting-Prime Minister by R. W. Shaw, a flaxmill employee: “Can yorf possibly do anything to got the mills going here. Position is desperate. Seventy-Hive men with dependants on the verge of starvation. W’e are prepared to accept a reduction of wages. Will you give us a lead. Wfe will meet you in conference if necessary.” The Acting-IVimc Minister replied as follows: —“Received your .telegram and greatly regret to leant position of workers referred to. lam taking matter up with the Hon. Minister for Labour as soon as lie returns to Wellington.”
