FOXTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

!(’-(IMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Foxton District High School committee was held lasl evening, presided over by Mjr. J. K. TTornblow (chairman). Also present wore Messrs C. M l . Ilewett, R. Mayer, T. Mudford and R. Rangihcuea. The headmaster (Mr. F. A. Mason) was also in attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs (1. F. Smith, M. E. Perreau, .Jno. Ross and F. Robinson. It: was reported that the concrete work <it the west end of the primary school, building had been completed.

Tt was decided to ask the Board’s architect to inspect and report re storm water nuisance. The headmaster reported that the janitor had commenced his duties under the extended schedule. — Resolved that the visitors in conjunction with the headmaster outline a scheme of work in connection with the garden plots. Correspondence was received from the Levin Choral Society, enclosing a cheque for £5 11/9, being half proceeds from the Society’s entertainment. The secretary’s action in forwarding n letter of thanks to the Society, was endorsed and it was decided’to apply the fund to some object which would carry a. subsidy. A letter was received from the owner of the old tennis court section, offering same to the committee for the sum of £3O, as a school playing area. It was decided to refer the offer to the (Board for consideration. Accounts amounting to £59 13/0 were passed for payment. Messrs Tlewett and Mayer were appointed visitors for the month. 1IHA!) MAST E It’S REPORT. The headmaster’s report was submitted as follows: — “Rolls: Primary, 370; secondary, 15; side school, -12. The primary roll number shows a decrease of 42 compared with the corresponding period lasl year (412). As the outcome of Ihc inspector's visit of inspection of Ihc secondary department early in the month two pupils have been recommended for Higher Leaving Celrtilicates and 11 for Senior Free Places. Candidates for outside examinations Ibis year are as follows: —Teachers’ Training !(.Allege Entrance, 2; University Entrance (Ala tri,cubit ion), i. Public Service Entrance, 3; Junior National Scholarship, 4. Foxlon will again lie a centre for the University Entrance Examination. Five pupils of Hu l senior secondary department are candidates tor Probafionerships on Abe school si a If. Dr. (limn, SchoJl Medical Officer, visited the school during Ihe month and examined the primary pupils at- both the main and side schools. Hot soup is being supplied foil- the current month to some 50 pupils at 10.30 daily. Mr. Do we, caretaker, has signed the schedule of djities drawn up by the secretary, and commenced on new schedule on Saturday, November Ist. All blinds have been overhauled during the mouth, and several repair jobs effected.
