FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Foxton Tennis Club held in the Town Hall supper-room last evening, presided over by Mr. L. C. Bryant (president). MOTION OF SYMPATHY. The president referred to the death of the late Mr. Francis Robinson who for many years had occupied the position of patron to the Chib. A motion of sympathy was passed in silence. REPORT AND BALANCESHEET. The annual report and balancesheet (as previously published) were read and adopted. NEW MEMBERS. The following now members were elected:— Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Robbie, Miss Rankin, Messrs’M. Walsh, D. and B. Ball, W. ICing, B. Gavin and N. Wigg. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows:—

A. Robbie and Miss Neylon; grounds committee: Messrs A. E. Alsop, W. King and A. Walsh; delegate to Manawatu Lawn Tenuis Association: R. .MeMurray. A discussion ensued on opening dale for the season. It was finally decided to alter the day from a Saturday to Wednesday. The date was fixed for October 22nd. CHANGING THE COURTS ROUND. A discussion ensued as to the advisability of altering the courts from their present position to east and west. The president said the suggestion came as a recommendation troin the outgoing committee. It would he necessary, however, to first ascertain the measurements of the area before anything could be done. It. was decided to hold the matter over until after the grounds committee had inspected the courts. APPOINTMENT OF CARETAKER.
The appointment of a caretaker was discussed, hut the president mi id that be did not think the .finances of the Club would permit such an expenditure. This season they were faced with increased rates and had to ’find a considerable sum to start the season with. The difficulty appeared to he in keeping the courts cut and he suggested that those male players unable 1 o assist in this connection l ,l 't in (id or 1/- once a week and with the amount: so raised engage someone to cut the courts. This was agreed to and the matter of appointment of a permanent ca retaker dropped. * . SOCIAL EVENING. The president reported that Mrs. S. Austin had again generously ottered to place her home at the disposal of the Club for a social evening in aid of the funds. Last year a sum in excess of £lO had been raised by this means. It was decided to accept Mrs. Austin’s offer with thanks and the date of the evening was fixed for Tuesday, October 14th, details being left in the hands of the ladies’ committee.
It was also decided to hold a Hannel dance on opening night. GENERAL. A notice of motion by Mr. C. Procter that the annual meeting' in future he held in July instead September was carried. Messrs C. Procter and A. E. Alsop were authorised to operate on the Club's account. Votes of thanks were accorded Mr. \V. Trueman and the Press for their services during the past season.
