FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Foxton Harbour (Board was held in the Board’s office yesterday, presided over toy Mr. J. Linlklater, M.P. (chairman). Also present were Messrs W. E. Bafiber, R. Bryant, M. E. Ferreau, 11. Edwards and the secretary (Mr. R. Rangiheuea). Mr. S. Jickell (Board engineer) was also in attendance. Ajpologies for absence were received from Messrs J. A. Nash, M.P., C. Blenkhorn and A. Fellow. THE WRECKED DREDGE.
The Marine Department wrote acknowledging receipt of the Board’s letter pointing out that owing to certain piles being left in the river at thje site of the old Shannon bridge the Board’s dredge had been wrecked on its way to Foxton. The Department stated that the matter was receiving attention and as soon as a report had been prepared the Department would communicate further with the Board.
Arising out of the wreck of the dredge and attempt at salvage, Ylr. J. iS. Cameron, of Moutoa, notified the Board that considerable damage bad been done to his stop bank and road by the contractors during salvage operations and he claimed £5 to make good the damage done. 'The wreck of the dredge was discussed in committee and the chairman was authorised to finalise the matter to the best advantage' to the Board. It Was decided to inform Mr. Cameron that his claim would be discussed when settlement in the above was reached. TREE PLANTING.
The secretary reported that the five thousand pin us insiguus trees donated by Ylr B. 11. Just had been received and planted. The total planted cost to the board, including packing, cartage, etc., was £IA (j/-. Members expressed pleasure thait the work had been carried out so economically and complimented the secretary upon the work done in this connection. G-ENtERAL.
Mr. S. Jickell waited on the Board with a request that the Board cancel an agreement to lease a section at the Heads. He entered into the agreement in 1010, he said, and had paid rates on the section ever since, tout it was of no use to him as it Hooded with every high tide and he had seen as much as fifteen inches of water on it.
It was decided to release Ylr. Jickell from his obligation. Accounts amounting to £143 5/7 were passed for payment.
