Wellington, Last Night,
The memorial at Port Hill swell to the late W. F. Massey, former Prime Minister, was the object of a large pilgrimage this afternoon when the oHijciul unveiling ceremony was performed by the Gov-ernor-General, Lord Bledisloe.
Unstinted tribute to the national and Empire work of the late Mr. .Massey was paid by all shades of political opinion, and his endeavours and achievements on behalf of the people as a whole were fully recognised.
Lady Bledisloe attended, and others present included Ministers of the 'Crown, members of Parliament, the Mayor, the Chief Justice, representatives of national and public bodies and organisations, as well as relatives and friends of the late Mr. Massey.
The Lit. Rev. Dr. Sprott, Bishop of Wellington, led the gathering in prayer at the opening of the ceremony and pronounced the Benediction.
The Rev. G. Budd, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyl’erian Church of 'New Zealand, conducted the dedication service, dedicating the memorial in the following words: —
“fn the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, T dedicate this'memorial to the glory of God, and in memory of His Servant William Ferguson Massey, in the name of (he Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.” Htoquenl and lifting tributes were made by the Acting-Prime Minister Hon. E. A. Ransom, Right Hon. J. G-. 'Coates, Leader of the Opposition and Mr. TT. E. Holland, Leader of the Labour Party. 'The ceremony of uiijveiling the memorial was performed by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe.
