FIELD DAY AT OROUA DOWNS
ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON. Officers of the Department of Agriculture will be present at the property of Mr. F. C. Raikes, at Oroua Doaviis on Thursday afternoon next to explain the experiments being carried out on his farm for the Oroua Doaviis Pastoral Improvement Society. These comprise bet\A r een 500 and 600 fiats, the first; series being a species and strain immstigation mainly comprised of perennial rye grass. The next will be an explanation of the manurial trials and an examination of these should poA*c instructive at the present time as the action of nitrogenous fertilisers may be seen. Mr. Hudson, of the Department, is in charge of this branch and will be present to explain the Avork. Work with sulphate of amonia, potash and lime has been going on for some time now and farmers should be able to judge the value of'their work.
Air. R. P. Connell, of the Fields Dh’ision of the Department, Avill treat Avith some of the features of ManaAvatu soils and explain the object of the AA’-ork at Oroua Downs.
