WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
LOYAL BRANCH FORMED.
A. meeting of local ladies convened by the Mayoress (Airs. M. E. Perronu) was held in the Presbyterian Sunday schoolroom yesterday afternoon for the purpose of discussing a proposal to form a branch of the Women’s Institute locally. There was a good attendance and Airs. Perreau was voted to the chair. She extended a welcome in Aliss A. Crawford, of Palmerston North, organiser for the Provincial Federation, who gave an interesting outline of the aims and objects of the Institute.
At the conclusion of the address it was unanimously decided, on the motion of Alesdames C. H. Symons and W. H. Walton to form a branch of the institute locally and the election of officers was proceeded with as follows : President: Airs. M. E. Perreau; secretary: Airs C. 11. Symons: committee (with power to add): Mesdames W. Trueman, W. H. Smith, W. H. Wlalton, A. P. Easton and Aliss Poole and the secretary and president.
It was decided that the local branch meet on the third Tuesday in each month at 2 p.m. A programme for the first meeting was drawn up and the meeting terminated with votes of thanks to Aliss Crawford and the chair.
