The friends of Air. C. King will regret- to learn that he has been compelled to enter the Palmerston North Hospital for an operation. Messrs W. Jack (Inspector) and J. A. Smith (Engineer) of the lloi-o--whenua Power Board were in Foxton on Thursday in connection with the community lighting installation. At the annual meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society last night Mr. Francis Robinson was reelected patron. Members of the Society learnt with feelings of regret of lvis death this morning., Tn moving- that Air. D. Christie l»o elected president of the FuxTuii Horticultural Society at last night’s annual meeting, Mrs. F. Woods said she considered Air. Christie the best president the Society had ever had. fie had proved himself to be the right man in tlaright place. Air. E. J. Murphy was unanimously re-elected secretary to the Foxton Horticultural Society at Inst night’s annual meeting. In proposing his re-election Mr. I). Christie pointed out that due to Air. Alitrphy's energy (lie Society’s membership had grown from -1-7 to 07 and with the new members e.lee ted that night, now totalled over 100. The membership roll was now the highest in the history of the Society and a tribute to the enthusiasm of the secretary.
- In proposing that Aliss J. Ross lie elected a life member of flic Foxton Horticultural Society at last night’s annual meeting, Mrs. S. Easton said that Miss Ross had been actively associated with Ibe Society over a period of twenty-one years, ever since the Society’s bleep! ion. Rev. W. H. Walton pointed out that a similar record was held by Mrs. A. S. Easton and Win. Nye, both of whom were added to the list of life members.
Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Bledisloe will arrive at Palderston North on Monday and will lie accorded a public reception n.t 3.15 pan. On Tuesday the hospital and Old People’s Home will be sisited' and the Massey Agricultural College and Their Excellencies will he llie guests at a civic luncheon at the Grand Hotel. On Wednesday the Winter Show will he visited. After visiting Flock House on Thursday the party will entrain for Wellington. A pleasant ceremony took place iii the “Herald” Office on Thursday afternoon, when the staff “gathered round the stone” in lime-honoured fashion to do honour to Aliss f\. 11. Sewell, who has recently retired after a service extending lo almost, a quarter of a century. ATr. E. W. Huntley, in making a presentation to Aliss Sewell on behalf of the staff of a handsome handbag, together with a substantial cheque from the Company, referred to Ihe long and pleasant associations (hat had existed during Miss Sewell’s connection with the business, and wished her many years of health and happiness in the future. The health of the guest, was pledged, and light .refreshments partaken of. Miss Sewell acknowledged the function lo be a very pleasant surprise, which she much appreciated.
