NEW LEGISLATIVE COUNCILLORS.
NONE OE REFORM NOMINEES RE-APPOINTED. Wellington, This Day. It is announced officially that the Governor-General has appointed the following to be Legislative Councillors: The Hon. D. Bnddo, formerly member for Kniapoi and an exAlinisler of the Crown. Mr. Robert Masters, a. former member for Stratford, a wellknown Taranaki business man, and chairman of the Royal Commission on Railways. Air. .Jonathan Trovelhick, a retired Auckland business man, actively associated with public nf--1 airs. Mr. Robert McCollum, who was fur many years member for Uairau, and is prominent in the ndiniiiisl rat ion of university and primary education. Mr. William Stevenson, a wellknown resident, of Invercargill. Mr. Mark Eagan, a veteran miners’ union leader from the West t oast of the South Island. The retiring members of the Council were the Hons. James Cragie (Oainnni), Francis Marnier (Auckland), Edward Newman ( Raugilikei), and Wiremu Eikihana (Auckland). They have all served seven years, having been appointed in 1<123. In addition there were Iwo vacancies through the deaths of Sir Thomas McKenzie, and the Hon. .11. L. Mitehel. It was anticipated that the Government would appoint supporters of the Liberal and United policy to the vacancies, bid in many quarters on all sides of politics it was considered that. Messrs Newman and Craigie, in view of their special knowledge and service, might very justly he re-appointed. The Government, however, has adhered to the strictly partisan view.
