At the annua! meeting of the Manawatu County Council on 'i uesdav Cr. W. E. Barber, was unanimously re-elected chairman for the ensuing twelve months. Douglas, the six-year-old son of Mr. 0. Cook, of the Avenue, was admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital on Tuesday suffering from pneumonia. He is reported to be progressing satisfactorily.

For the first time in the history of the local Court father aud son occupied the Bench at the monthly court sitting held this morning. The presiding Justices were Messrs A. and G. V. Fraser.

Eulogistic references to the work of the county engineer (Mr. If. V. Bond) were made at Tuesday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council, Air. J. H. Perrctt stressing the immense improvement, in the condition of the county highways. Cr. W. E. Barber (chairman) agreed that Mr. Bond had done really splendid work during the past twelve months.
