Mr. L. C. Couch returned to Boston yesterday after a motor lour of the North Island. Mr. and Mrs. Thornber, of Ha- • v/era, and late of Exoton, are leaving for England next week. ’ Retiring after 46 years’ honourable service as Salvationists, Colonel and Mrs. Carmichael, divisional commanders of the Central North Division, were fare welled last evening in the Palmerston Nonh citadel by a representative gathering of stall' officers and district Salvationists. To-day Mr. W. D. Bauckham, again takes over the well-known grocery business which he sold to Mr. Garbett abdut three years ago. Since leaving Foxton, Mr*. Bauekham opened two grocery businesses in Masterton which he recently sold to a firm which runs a chain of stores in different parts of the provinee. It speaks well for the business stability of Foxton vvhen a former business rnan prefers its prospects to other localities. Mr. H. E. Garbett, relinquishes business in Foxton to-day to entei 1 arming pursuits, he having acquired a farm property in No. 2 Fine. During AH. Garbett’s residence in Foxton he has taken an active interest in local affairs and it is pleasing to know that he is to continue his residence in our midst, ilis many friends will wish, him prosperity in his fanning venture, in this eonnectiou Mr. Garbett does not commence as a “new chum,’" having had previous experience on the land. Mr. and Airs. \Y. Bullard, of Avenue Road, Foxton, celebrated the forty-first anniversary of their wedding day on Tuesday. A number of friends, together with Mr and Mrs. Bullard’s eldest sou and his wife who are at present on a hohday visit to Foxton, foregathered iu the evening' and tendered felicitations and good wishes for the future. Airs. Bullard received the guests in her wedding dress and despite fashion’s evolution, Looked quite charming. Photographs recalled faces of friends and incidents of the past. Popular songs of forty years ago were revived, and both All', and Mrs. Bullard contributed vocal numbers, which were much appreciated. After supper those present surrounded the “happy couple” and wished them continued health aud happiness.
