PARNELL BY-ELECTION
LITTLE PUBLIC INTEREST. Auckland, April 30. Practically no interest is being taken in the Parnell by-election campaign, which up to the present has been very dull and uninteresting. Mr. R. A. Wright, journeyed up - from Wellington and livened things np a little, but even he has not been ii* quite his best debating form. Ministers who have spoken iu support ;o£ the United candidate have so far had no convincing message to convey. The Leader of the Opposition (the Right Hon. J. G .Coates) should be lifted somewhat from the nick by the appearance of the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, who is expected to deal with the Dominion’s finances. He will speak op Friday
night. The other candidates will have strong support during the next few days. The x’esnlt of the election, however, will create little local interest.
